About Liposuction in Austin

Liposuction continues to be the second most popular cosmetic procedure in the United States.[1] Since modern liposuction was developed in the late 1970s, ongoing advances have been made to improve the safety and efficacy of the procedure. Today, liposuction stands as one of the most effective and surgical procedures with low rates of complications when established protocols are followed.

Benefits

  • Gives your body the contours you want
  • Removes stubborn bulges that can’t be exercised away
  • Can treat some conditions such as gynecomastia, lymphedema, and lipodystrophy
  • Proven safe and effective by numerous studies conducted over decades

Candidates

Studies have shown that one of the primary factors to determine a successful procedure is proper patient selection.[2] Not every patient will be suited to liposuction so realistic expectations are paramount to successful results. Liposuction works best as a body contouring procedure that removes those obstinate pockets of fat. While large volume liposuction can form part of a dramatic weight-loss strategy, it’s important that patients know that liposuction only addresses the removal of existing fat. The importance of postoperative lifestyle changes to complement liposuction is essential to protect your alluring long term results.

Preparation and Procedure

liposuction

During your consultation, it’s important to share all pertinent information regarding your medical history and medications. You don’t want to omit an important detail that might affect your outcome. Make sure to follow all directions provided to you by Dr. Booth.

In general, all patients should expect to follow basic instructions. Stop smoking. Non-smokers always have fewer risks when undergoing surgical procedures. You want your body to operate under optimal conditions. You should also refrain from taking medication that thins the blood. Dr. Booth can provide you a complete list but you should avoid aspirin and ibuprofen.

Perhaps counterintuitively, you should not crash diet before liposuction. You want your body in a healthy state before a procedure and crash dieting can limit the nutrients your body needs.

During your procedure, Dr. Booth will make small incisions to access the problematic area. He will then use a narrow suctioning device called a cannula to sweep the treatment area. This process removes the unwanted fat deposits. Removing these targeted fat deposits will improve the appearance and shape of your body and reveal smooth, muscle tone.

Recovery and Aftercare

Liposuction is considered a safe, established procedure with a very low risk of complications for patients. Make sure to follow all safety protocols provided by Dr. Booth’s office to ensure the healthiest recovery.

Please don’t rush and you’ll experience the long-lasting satisfaction of your new physique.

There are some general guidelines to follow for all liposuction patients. First, take the necessary time to rest and recuperate. Don’t rush back to your usual activities immediately after liposuction. Depending on the location, Dr. Booth will discuss with you a suitable timeline to resume your normal activities. Don’t rush this timeline. You want to give your body the time it needs to recover. Second, wear any compression garment the office recommends. These garments help protect your results and help your body adjust during the important recovery period. Third, eat a healthy diet. If you want to ensure your results last, your recovery period is the perfect time to begin a pattern of nutritious eating. Throw out the junk food if you want to experience the best results. Typically a full recovery might take six weeks to two months. That’s okay.

Results

liposuction

Liposuction is a proven procedure that can redefine a patient’s physique and help patients reach their desired aesthetic outcome.

It’s an effective method to remove stubborn bulges of fat and a great adjunct procedure to include in a comprehensive weight-loss strategy.[3] When performed by an experienced surgeon with good physician-patient communication it can achieve remarkable transformations.

Liposuction is considered a very safe procedure for patients with realistic expectations.[4] Liposuction can achieve some phenomenal results in recontouring the physique but it’s not a magic pill to what social media might think is a “perfect body.” There is no universal perfect body, just the body perfect for you.

Complementary Procedures

Liposuction is great on its own but can also be combined with other procedures to form a cohesive body reshaping strategy. Liposuction forms a crucial component of the comprehensive mommy makeover. It can also be combined with breast augmentation or tummy tucks.

FAQ

How much weight can you lose with liposuction?

Only about 2-5 pounds. Contrary to what some people might believe, liposuction is not a weight-loss procedure. It’s a body contouring procedure designed for target reduction in fat deposits in strategic locations. We recommend patients be at or within 10-15 of their ideal body weight before undergoing liposuction. If a patient intends to lose a significant amount of weight, we advise they do that first and postpone liposuction until after they lose that weight for the best results.

How many times can I get liposuction?

You can get liposuction on multiple locations of the body, sometimes all during the same combined procedure if it’s determined safe. For the same location, if you currently have fat you can technically have liposuction, but scar tissue might interfere with your results. The best thing to do if you wish to have liposuction in a location you’ve had it previously is to consult with a body sculpting expert like Dr. Booth. He can review your exact case and assess the viability of your candidacy for liposuction.

Do I have to wear a compression garment?

We won’t force you, but we highly recommend it. Compression garments will reduce swelling which both quickens and improves your recovery. Without a compression garment, your body will reabsorb fluids and the swelling will last much longer. It might also detract from the best results possible.

Are the results of liposuction permanent?

Yes and no. Your fat cells are permanently set during your teenage years. The sheer number of fat cells is fixed for the rest of your life. Liposuction permanently removes a number of fat cells. The removed fat cells will not return. However, if you do not maintain a healthy lifestyle, the remaining fat cells will expand and can mar the fine results achieved through your hard work and liposuction.
